Presents literature about the African-American experience. Focuses on accounts of the colonial slave trade, the plantation experience, the abolition movement, the Reconstruction Era, and the Harlem Renaissance. Includes works by such emerging writers as Walker, Morrison, Gaines, and Jordan.
