EGR* 131 - Introduction to Nanotechnology 3 credits Designed to give participants who have little or no knowledge of nanotechnology a broad overview of the field in a nontechnical manner. Lectures will present the fundamental ideas behind nanoscience and nanotechnology. Beginning with the definition of a nanometer, discussions will continue through how nanotechnology will affect business and industry; basic processes that are currently used in nanotechnology; the economic impact of this emerging field; environmental concerns in the near and long-term; NEMS/MEMS; imaging devices; polymers; biomolecules; nanowires; nanotubes; fullerenes; and other carbon nanostructures. Participants will be expected to read the material, share data obtained from the class discussion and prepare additional nanotechnology oriented projects/papers and presentations. Prerequisite(s): MAT* 095 or higher,ENG* 066 or higher. Corequisite(s): CET* 116 .
