SUR* 109 - Microbiology for Surgical Technologists 2 credits Gives a broad overview of general microbiology and the clinical microbiology most necessary for the surgical technologist to understand. Emphasizes the importance of sterile technique and infection control in the operating room while covering basic information such as bacterial staining, microscopy, how bacteria can be cultivated and identified in the laboratory, the most significant human pathogens and how the immune system responds to them. Lecture Hours: 2 Prerequisite(s): CSA* 105 , ENG* 101 , HIM* 101 , MAT* 109 (or higher) all with a grade of C or higher; BIO* 115 with a grade of C+ or higher; ENG* 102 or ENG* 202 (pre- or co-req), Social Phenomena elective.
