MEC* 283 - Design of Machines CALT 4 credits Presents the concept of Mechanical Design, from concept to specifications. Covers the procedures, data, and techniques necessary to design such mechanical components as gears, springs, bearings, belt and chain drives, clutches, brakes, fasteners, shafts, and screws. Emphasizes the use of computers in the design process. The laboratory portion combines all previous study dealing with machine elements. Uses computer-aided design solutions and requires a design project. This project includes an analysis of individual components, assembly, and detail drawings. Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 3 Prerequisite(s): MEC* 250 , MEC* 265 , and CAD* 108 .
